NYC’s Riverdale and Horace Mann Schools will require kindergarten applicants to take the online First Look Insights test (FLI) when applying during the 2022-2023 school year.
Update: The FLI test will be a requirement for 2025-2026 Riverdale and Horace Mann kindergarten applicants.
The academic and cognitive skills tested on the FLI test around reading, math, and memory have steadily increased in difficulty since 2020.
Preparing Your Child
- Practice talking with your child on Zoom in two rooms to mimic the 1:1 virtual assessment.
- Your child should wear headphones while you practice, which are required for the test. Puro Wireless Headphones for Kids fit kids well, and there are no distracting wires to play with.
- While on Zoom, your child can label uppercase and lowercase letters, match sounds to letters, and play memory, math, and rhyming games with you.
